Akatsuka fue el padre del género Mahou Shôjo (a.k.a Magical Girls) con la obra Himitsu no Akko-chan, publicado en las páginas de la revista Ribon entre 1962 y 1965. En España hemos podido disfrutar del anime (El Secreto de Akko-chan) ya que se ha emitido en diversas televisiones locales.
